Hi everybody,
Do you really think the ticket price is expensive for the line-up? This is a Defected ITH event with Martin Solveig, which in itself is a very expensive package, but on top of that there are 3 other artists on the bill, who are all headliners in their own right. And we are definitely NOT banking on a quiet night and bumping up the price to milk those that do come down, and the fact that you even suggest it is a little out of order.
The door price is calculated so that with a full house we will break even, and this is the way we have to do it to make the impact we want to make. Anyone who was at the first can testify to how it went off, the atmosphere was electric all night, and everyone had a great time.
As for the venue, The Northern Light is a great venue. I have run nights around the country, and from an aesthetic point of view, it is stunning. With the line-ups that we are doing, we had a choice of a number of venues in Leed's, and we liked the fact that the NL had no strong brands attached to it. On top of that, the newly upgraded sound system is the business, and the equipment set-up in the booths is second to none.
It always amazes me when people are negative about new nights in their hone towns, especially ones that are trying to bring something different to the mix. Surely the more options you have as a clubber the better?
We do take all feedback on the event very seriously, so I would appreciate your comments on my post.
Cheers,
The Team @ Player

hey Ben i wouldn't take the comments too seriously, it's just throw-away banter really that said, 14 quid on the door is pretty expensive, especially when the night finishes at (i think) 3am (compare that to what i guess is the next most expensive night this weekend which will be Basics - which is usually a couple of quid cheaper and goes on for longer) regarding the venue, i doubt this is the 1st time you'll have heard anyone mention that they aren't overly keen on it. the very high ceiling and big main room size does make it difficult to generate an "involving" atmosphere, and means that you do have to have a pretty big crowd, otherwise the place looks empty. but, as i said please don't take the banter on here too seriously (this is far from being a deadly serious music forum). see you on friday, James.

My comments were in no way aimed at having a dig at the quality of the night which, I haven't attended so am in no position to pass judgement on. All I was doing was comparing the entry price to that of other similar weekend clubnights around Leeds. I am not a promoter and have no idea what DJs such as Martin Solvieg cost so if that is what needs to be charged to break even then fair enough (it would be pointless to charge less and lose money)

Ben, Assuming you're using the upstairs (capacity = 710 according to the N.L. website) i'd agree with those that felt the entrance price £12 tickets (+b/f?), or £14 on the door, is excessive....its a Friday, which instantly means it should be cheaper... As for my tongue-in-cheek remark about low attendances = inflated price.... i apologise if this has caused offense, but each time i've been to the venue its been quiet and other nights don't seem to have had as much success as your launch night apparently had. As T-Boy said it was just a bit of banter... Hope Friday goes well for you mate, I'd have loved to have seen Martin Solveig, but its my g/f's birthday this weekend, we're off to Harrogate for dinner on Friday nite. He's playing Southport Weekender on Friday as well isn't he, according to their timetable he's playing 4.30-close, incl. a live P.A. by whoever did "Rockin Music".....sounds good to me!

The reason NL is seen as being a crap venue is because no night has managed to tame the space.
We managed it on our launch, and if we can do it again we'll be laughing.
It's an intimidating venue for most promoters, because you have to have at least 500 through the doors for any sort of atmosphere.

The reason NL is seen as being a crap venue is because no night has managed to tame the space. I'd say move the DJ box to ground level for a start. It's seen as cr@p cos its like Townhouse, not like a club. Move to Mission...you'll make a killing.

Yeah, the DJ booth is now twice the size and is at ground level, and there is a stage to the left. It look's really good.
Sorry for the link, but have a look at the gallery on playersessions.com for photos from the launch.
Mission is not right for Player Sessions, we are attracting a crowd that I dont think would go to Mission. I'm sure T-Boy knows what I'm saying...
