Liverpool Gets Wrong…..
Friday September 29th sees the launch of Wrongdezvous, the festival in a club. Wrongdezvous will feature the world’s most popular bands, djs, performers and living legends. This is the club for the i-Pod generation. A place where musical boundaries are blurred and the experience outweighs the hype. This is where guitars meet decks, indie kids rub shoulders with disco dollies, (new) ravers mosh with rockers, punk-funkers groove with house heads, and where electro girls fall for techno boys, whilst being entertained by the characters and icons that define the image of wrong. It’s the club for now, so party like its 2006. Wrongdezvous’ first party is at Jaxx, Liverpool’s newest city centre venue.
Radio 1 and MTV2 's Zane Lowe comments on the scene: "Right now, it feels like there is a lessening division between rock n roll and clubs. Whether its Mylo or Bloc Party, Fischerspooner or Kasabian, there is desire for rock kids to dance and dance kids to rock. This summer, Ibiza will become a breeding ground for both. Let's see how their kids turn out."
Wrongdezvous will use Jaxx as a blank canvas. The venue will be transformed to include four separate sound systems, stages, and a festival market area with loads of fun and games, split over four levels. Wrongdezvous will be creating new spaces within the already gargantuan venue. In the basement the vibe is prototype punk, new wave, electro, trash and cutting edge indie, augmented by a big dollop of rock n roll excess. Upstairs cutting edge club night Aztec will be joining us, celebrating their 4th birthday in style with the best in house, techno, electro and acid house. Level 2 is all about comedy, having a laugh with a soundtrack of stuttering charity shop chic. Whilst in the Outhouse local night Superfly serves up a heady cocktail of acidic breakbeat and rave-drenched electro.
But enough of the music, where the fun, at Wrongdezvous, really lies is in the revolutionary take on clubbing. Quite simply things have been too serious for too long, so instead of chin-stroking musos hording up our floors, instead we’re populating it with performance artists; like the stars of Lost Vagueness - The Laundrettas and Doris Latrine, comedy bingo, shisha temples and the festival market area, where other assorted forms of madness will be running amok. We don’t believe in one room and three djs, that’s merely a facet of what clubbing should be about and we’re duly representing this belief.
The basement sees an extremely rare dj set from Markey Ramone, of The Ramones. The Ramones famously created Punk years before Malcolm Maclaren assembled the Sex Pistols. He tops the bill, backed up superbly by live sets from London upstarts Blondelle and local scallywags The Vagabonds. Add to this dj sets from The Trash Pussies, sporting Bob Geldof and Paula Yates’ wildchild Peaches, The Dead 60s and Tramp DJs,. You’re talking about one of the most intense and forward thinking club rooms this side of 1976. The billing for this room hasn’t even finished yet, there are a few more acts to be added and a couple of very special surprise guests who we can’t announce just yet.
Upstairs with Aztec headlining the first event is the King of jacking house, Chicago legend Derrick Carter. Supporting Derrick is man of the moment Chris Lake, rising high on the crest of his huge Ibiza smash ‘Changes’ which looks set to trouble the upper echelons of the charts. But don’t think this boy is a one hit wonder, his underground grafting has ensured that his records have been supported by a who’s who of the dance music contingency. They’ll be supported up by Sonny Wharton - Mixmag future hero described by Annie Nightingale (Radio1) as "hot new talent" as well as Manchester’s Kindergarten DJs, after party king Alex Wasikowski and of course one of Liverpool’s hottest djs and Aztec resident Jemmy.
For the piece de résistance in the musical chapter, the bar plays host to the Happy Mondays’ Kav on the decks, who will be supported by legendary caner and Wrongdezvous icon Bez. This is backed up by dj sets from NYC legend Mixmaster C and Hard-Fi tour DJ Wrong Tom, who produced the eclectic and most popular mixmag cover cd of 2006. Finally, Team Mega Mix who will provide the coolest school disco you’ve ever witnessed, in their words… “get up and just f*cking dance!”.
In the Outhouse the SuperFly boys will be backed up by the appearance of the irrepressible Atomic Hooligan and current producers du jour The Magnet Men.
