REPUBLIK are more than delighted to welcome back MARK FARINAon Bank Holiday May 6th. Mark himself has chosen Waterford, Ireland as one of the places he wanted to return to for this year's HOUSE OF OM CD Tour after a truly rocking night on his 2006 visit for his MINSTRY OF SOUND TOUR.. In fact in an interview with music magazine M8 last year after his tour, Mark was asked what his favourite gig of the tour was and he simply put '' Waterford in Ireland was really amazing''....
What can we say about Mark Farina that hasn't already been said, a true pioneer of the funky house groove. Mark developed his musical tastes in Chicago – listening to house music on the radio, living in one of the country’s most primordial breeding grounds for house. Around ’88, while record shopping at Imports, he met Derrick Carter and a friendship began. “I just ended up there between classes, I ended up buying his picks. He steered me toward the cutting edge House producers of the time.”
Known around the world for performing his two distinctive DJ styles: chunky funky Chicago style house, and instrumental hip-hop mixed with jazzy soul known as Mushroom Jazz, Mark has been one of the most sought after DJs since he began touring the globe in 1989. Mark is a regular at the top clubs and festivals around the world including Fabric London, Pacha Ibiza, Zouk Singapore, Creamfields Liverpool, Field Day Sydney, and Skol Beats Sao Paulo.
In 2003, with 4 Mushroom Jazz and 4 Chicago house DJ mixed compilations along with numerous singles already under his belt, Mark released his debut artist album 'Air Farina' to widespread critical acclaim. The album included the singles 'Radio' and 'Dream Machine' which became immediate club classics. 2004 saw the release of his live double mix CD with long time Chicago pal Derrick Carter 'Live at OM'. Spring 2005 saw the highly anticipated release of the 5th installment of Mark's legendary 'Mushroom Jazz' series. Mark's remix skills are also highly in demand from top labels such as Verve and Classic. Ministry of Sound Recordings enlisted Mark to mix a double CD of their prestigious Sessions series in 2006 and Mark will be mixing the next installment of Om Record’s House of Om mix series due for release Summer 2007.
Mark has always released cutting edge CD Comp's right from the early Om and San Francsico Sessions right through to his current Ministry of Sound and now House Of Om releases, which both has featured some talented up & coming producers including our own Gavin Boyce. In fact the current HOUSE OF OM release has no less than 2 Waterford producers, along with Gavin Boyce's Greenhouse Music release 'Stick with It' is Waterford label Yakuza newest release Soydan's 'Takil' and added to that RePublik's good friends at Blue Iguana Music are also on there with the final track, the brilliant Ben Armstrong & Randal Soeung - Wrong Turn (Rhythm Plate Remix).
Mark will join RePublik's Warren & Kenno, who brilliantly got things going at last year's gig and who also stepped in for Sneak last Sunday at The Forum and prodcued another memorable display that has the large crowd rocking and begging for more....
The Adm is just 16euro and Doors open at 10pm
The event will be staged at what many Waterford folk consider the best venue in the city, Stage 2 Main Area, which has recently got a facelift and extension, all in all this one should be one of the best nights Waterford has ever seen and ideed wet the appattite for our final OM TOUR EVENT, when the GREENSKEEPERS LIVE come to town on MAY 26th at The Forum Main room...more details soon..
