Trying to work out what people are prepared to pay for a Thursday night, will people pay more than £5-6 on a Thursday, do people really need to see a famous DJ on the flyer to make it a good night etc?

I certainly think that it would be much more busy if it was a high profile dj.
The problem with the unknown dj's is that the majority of people will not book a friday off work to go and see a dj that they have never heard of. Also, putting entrance price at £2-3 does not scream out and make people want to come because they are going to think ,'well if its only £2 in to this club its not gonna be poo'.
My opinion is that rudenot2 should try and get a dj playing that everyone has heard of, people are gonna want to go see, and one that people are going to book a day off work for. Once they have been, had a good night, met the people......then put the unknown dj on because once people have been once, they will come again because in my experience its a top night.

For my two peneth I reckon the best nights are about the actual party/atmospere and residents/music policy. During the glory days of Basics @ Mint there were loads of nights when we all went just 'cause Ralph was on alongside someone we may not have heard of as you were more or less guaranteed a rocking night due to. Venue - Stinky's appears comparible Music - although fashion does change i think most of us have pretty good ears either for stuff we like or differnet/new stuff. So big names shouldn't need to be top of the priority list. Saying that a major bonus of running a night has to be booking people you really want to see. The best nights in my opinion are ressie driven with guests that are at the forefront of the scene not someone collecting their inflated fee 'cause they've payed their due's - comparison to certain footballers apply. Crowd - Well i think theres a core group already sorted. the next progression i think would be a Friday slot as people have to eat into holiday or turn up at work in a reet state, not everyone is as hardcore as kym. If Francois K ever needs a post RN2 place to crash let me know

The best nights in my opinion are ressie driven i completely agree, and i'm trying my best music policy-wise, as we are a midweek night we want to keep the music on the lighter side, but well away from 'funky house' and with regard to the guest DJs, we are working hard to find the right style of DJ, with the right kind of reputation, but who is still affordable for a midweek night as you say, a successful night is one that runs off the reputation of it's vibe and atmosphere foremost, and the quality of it's DJ second if a night has nothing going for it except the guest DJ who is on, then it will have few regulars and even fewer 'followers' we are also very open to suggestions on all aspects of our night, so feel free to let us know any ideas or thoughts you have about the night (or the residents )

You have to build a reputation first though before you can start relying on the residents / smaller named DJs.
Named DJs will get bums on seats and send people away saying "I saw so and so at RN2", thus telling their mates and encouraging them to come etc.

PERSONALLY (& AS A "NON-OBSESSIVE" LIKE YOU CHAPS) MY REASONS FOR CLUBBING ARE 3 FOLD:
A) THE DJ ROCKS! (CASH NO ISSUE)
B) IMPULSIVE CLUB APPEARANCE WHILST ALREADY OUT ON THE LASH (CASH - NO MORE THAN 5 DOLLARS)
C) MY BOYFRIEND INSISTS THE DJ IS TOP BANANA / I'VE NEVER HEARD O THEM - I LOSE HE WINS (CASH NO ISSUE)
THUS IN MY MIND – PEOPLE WILL PAY CRAZYMONEY FOR A NAME (BUT TEND 2 SAVE IT FOR THE WEEKEND) WHEREAS MID-WEEK YOUR WALLET IS WALKING A TIGHT ROPE SO EVEN THO U WANA GOOD NIGHT YOU'RE NOT PREPARED TO PAY OVERT'OP
HOWEVER THERE IS “THE MIDDLEGROUND” -£5 IN IS OK FOR MID-WEEK IF THE NIGHT IS RECOMMENDED BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THERE STUFF BUT IS ALSO A JUSTIFIABLE SPEND IF U MERELY HAPPEN UPON IT BLINDLY (OR BLIND DRUNK)

Another idea thingy boby.......
would it not be better to have rudenot2 on the 1st Thursday in the month. All my mates are totally skint in the last week of the month as they, like myself, get paid on the last working day of the month which is the 30th or 31st. Alot of them have said they were coming then the night before they realise they are skint and have no money so decide to leave it till the weekend when they have been paid.
Just another idea that all.

All my mates are totally skint in the last week of the month as they, like myself, get paid on the last working day of the month which is the 30th or 31st. Ok, it's remained on the last Thurs for a couple of reasons: 1) everyone gets paid different dates, some mid-month, some on the 20th (like Kym & Weehawken), some 25th, some last Friday of month. I get paid on the 1st of the month, as do many others. 2) 'Madhatters' is on the first friday of the month and is a very similar night to ours, so to hold our night the night before there's, when they get such good guests and are established @ Stinkys would be risky. 3) Continuity, best to keep it the same and then people start to remember when ur night is without actually needing to tell them. 4) The grand plan is to move it to a Friday, which would mean changing the week we do it anyway (the last Fri of the month is always 'Superconductor'), so for instance it might change to the 4th Fri (23rd) in Apr. Which once again ain't ideal for payday what we've got to take what we can. We're lucky enough to have got in with one of the best/coolest/most 'easy-going' clubs in Leeds so i'm just happy we're there at the moment. It's really good to hear what you all think anyway, keep the feedback and 'wants' coming in..... Still want to hear some realistic DJs you'd all like to hear! Midget wants me to get Jeremy Healy, Dayslipper wants Yousef and i'm led to believe that some lad from Hudds wants to see DJ Mozzi @ Stinkys after his performance at Paradise b4 Xmas! dunno 'bout that one!!! Feb line-up will be confirmed next week.

Jezza would be quality for the heckling alone. On a serious note as I mentioned on a seperate post Yousef on the Thursday followed by RN2 road trip to circus on the saturday would be a rocking way to kick off RN2 road trips.

The last thursday of the month isnt good, it clashes with casa. If it didn';t i'm sure a lot of the casa lot would make a trip upto leeds. This doesnt affect the march rn2 by the way. £5 is reasonable for a thursday night, though i dont mind paying more as its local and theres no added on train fare to manc or liverpool. Stacy Kidd for march please!

Kam - the trouble is there's prob only a handful of people from Leeds that will go over to Casa every month, so that alone ain't a good enough reason. We have enough trouble presuading people to come out on a school night as it is, without trying to get them all the way over from Manc! Re: Kidd - have been in contact with him but i'd need to sort him out with other dates around ours, visa etc and it basically looks more hassle than its worth.

The casa lot are a very clued up lot, and mad hatters is attracting more and more mancs now each month. It is possible.
