Magazine Reviews
Nocturnal Magazine - featured in top 50 chart:
"Fresh from Fred Everything's Lazy Days imprint comes a latin infused groover from Californian Giano. With a full on interlude mid-track it definitely takes you on a journey from start to finish and the flute riff rolls wonderfully over the brass swells."
Our House Magazine - 4/5
"Fred Everything's San Fran based Lazy Days drops a banger, not a clanger in the form of Giano's WJSD EP, you would be forgiven to think it actually may be another new strain of virus found in our National Health Service hospitals due to the UK's stupid Government. Infectious it is, contagious it may be and thanks to Chicago's Diz who by all accounts was the first to be infected by this Latin inspired bug. 'WJSD' a soulful summer jam with sumptuous Sax licks but it really starts to make sense once the Latin break rears it's head which immediately reminds me of Freeform Five's 'Beau Mot Plage' on Classic recordings, classic been the operative word. 'Rumba Papaya' another Latin infused number is a straight up conga driven groove until the freestyle brass goes ape poo and where straight back at Notting Hill. Fred and JT revisited the main track to replace the sun rays with strobe lights and prepare it for a sweaty basement or Space terrace action utilising the main break to the max. Pass me my Aviators!"
The Lowdown
Fred Everything’s San Francisco based label Lazy Days is fast approaching its tenth release, but just find time to squeeze in a little Latin flavour which is sure to hit all the right notes at Miami and into the summer. Fred’s recent move to California from Montreal sees him bring Ian Lujan, aka Giano, into the fold for an EP that has the Canadian transplant very excited: “It’s a serious monster of a track. The best Latin house track I've heard in ages.”
Giano is based in Fresno, California. A talented producer, he is influenced by a wide variety of sounds ranging from jazz to house to hip hop and downtempo and runs his own label Italiano Recordings which has so far released his own “Inside Toke EP”.
The main track on Lazy Day’s ninth release, ‘WJSD’ was introduced to Fred by Chicago legend DJ Diz, who then put the two in contact with each other. Don’t let the beginning of the track fool you, this is one takes you on a journey. It’s all about that Latin break in the middle which is reminiscent of Freeform 5’s boring remix of Beau Mot Plage. As such it has already been a firm favourite with Jay J, Johnny Fiasco and of course Diz and Fred.
Flip for Rumba Papaya, another latin influenced track. This time Giano twiddles the knobs as he remixes an original track from Russian Eugene Morriarti Poley.
On the remix tip, fresh from their successful EP on Lazy Days (which reached #2 on the Stompy download chart), Fred Everything once again teams up with JT Donaldson to turn in a simple latin beatdown, based around the middle part of the original, straight to the point.
Both Fred (real name Frederic Blais) and JT (James Donaldson) are stalwarts in the deep house scene having both released their first offerings just over 10 years ago; Fred with 2020 Vision in 1997 and JT with Cajual the year before. You can’t really ask for much more your debut releases! EP after EP, remix after remix and compilation license after compilation license have followed between then and now. Fred knocked out a couple of critically acclaimed albums, the pair have also turned in a few solo mix CDs and travelled the world gracing the decks, not to mention each setting up their own labels (Fred with Lazy Days and JT with Gallery). Their solo credentials more than speak for themselves and when they work together the results are equally as devastating.
