Switch Biography
Switch (AKA) Dave Taylor and Trevor Loveys. Dave is a hip hop freak from Ladbroke Grove with an ear for beats and causing trouble on vinyl, a man behind numerous shady records and some genius official ones (check Solid Groove’s ‘Flookin’ & ‘Island Life’ for where house should be right about now). Trevor Loveys is the man behind the genius House of 909 and a renowned graffiti artist of the Southseas. He has just completed his debut solo album ‘Intastella’ for Freerange and making pretty on the walls of London town.
It took Dave and Trevor hooking up and finding a mutual love of all things good to give us one of the sounds of now and a sign that dance music (across all styles) can still rock. Their debut release ‘Get Your Dub On’ has been one of those rare records that six months after release is still being played nationwide. A combination of fooked up beats, funk from the drawer and some twisted vocals has made it one of the records of the year and made Switch a name to check for. From here have come mixes for the likes of Busta Rhymes, The Audio Bully’s and most recently the new single from the Chemical Brothers, ‘Get Yourself High’. The guys are currently working on remixes for Basement Jaxx and Kylie!!
Switch’s appeal seems to lie in the fact that they make accessible fooked-up records in the ball-park that is dance music, throwing influences in from Squarepusher, Outkast, Prefuse 73, the Neptunes and Kenny Dope. If you look deeper into what they do you will find tracks that cover all bases from hip-hop to twisted afro all the way onto the jacking house music they are currently finding fame with. Currently Switch are busy in their W10 studio developing their debut album which will cover all angles from go-go through to breaks and crazy up-tempo business. Street music for street people.
