Les Croasdaile Bio
Born and bread in the urban area of Openshaw in Manchester all his life, Les Croasdaile became interested in House music around the tender age of 13. "I used to buy those DanceMaster compilation tapes from HMV when I was a youngster. I was very much into MJ, Five Star and Terrance Trent D'Arby but dance music was my biggest passion. When I was in 4th year at secondary School, I DJ'ed at the school disco with my best mate Ben Cornwell. The curtains came open and we were stood there on the stage terrified in front of around 300 people. Knees trembling, we had to use the most basic equipment you could ever imagine, but it went ok as I can remember playing tunes like Bobby Brown, 45 Kings, Stone Roses, and Rebel Mc"
"My first clubbing experiences were Love Decade, 'Parliament' nightclub next to the Apollo theatre in Manchester, the Hac, 5th Man and Golden. It wasn't until I started to work part-time at Texas Homecare DIY shop in Ancoats whilst I was a student at 17 years old that I really become aware of House music in it's purest form. Scott Carey was a Warehouse manager there and we hit if off instantly, he took me under his wing and overall it took me about a year to learn to mix properly using Scott's decks. Learning to mix off-beats and acappella's was my next task, which I seemed to have mastered quite well. I even tried mixing my Mum & Dad's Mo'Town, Reggae and Soul track's all together for a mess around, I'd pretty much try to mix anything if it had a beat."
Les started his career with warm up gigs around Manchester City Centre with "one of the most talented DJs I know" John Steward. Frequenting venues like like Iso-bar (now North), Beer Trading Company, Bar Coast and some rough local bars helped his confidence and he considered any DJing experience to be worth it, no matter what the crowd or venue. His first residency, at a bar named HotShots, came about due to help from another of Les' early influences, Darren Andrews. A friend named Phil 'Dunny' Duncalf brought a more vocal version of house to Les' attention. "It was 'US Garage' at the time which has now developed into Funk US House, 'Dunny' and myself couldn't get enough of this sound in the late 90's, when everyone else thought it was a little too gospel sounding. Everyone to their own tastes, that's what I believe in."
September 2002 and Les was invited to join the "Liquid" radio crew on ALL FM 96.9 Manchester. "The first night was extremely nerve racking but even still, enjoyed myself and got the bug instantly! I only missed one show whilst I was away with my lovely Girlfriend Wendy in the New Year". Whilst working on the show he met many of the UKs most influential house figures, with luminaries such as Steve Lawler, K-Klass, 808 State, Bobby Langley, Jon Dasilva, Subliminal, Deep Dish and Danny Howells.
Roll forward two years and Les had moved from radio to promoting, forming part of the Stylus team and a resident at the club. He's building up an increasing rosta of gigs over the Northwest and UK: "I just enjoy playing, and enjoy playing out. My heart is definately in house music, but stick me on the decks and Ill be happy to play anything. As long as you'll get your groove on!"
