for anyone thinking of going to this most dark of dark techno night......
from the promoters of Darkside:
The Darkside will no longer be held at either northern light or the velvet underground in leeds. The management at the venue are the most unprofessional / musically clueless group of people we have ever come across and we urge you all to never set foot in the place again. The venue has been nothing but trouble since we moved there last year with constant arguments over drinks prices, closing times, shoddy soundsystems (we had to hire our own after they spent £150k on a turd) and doormen who never once arrived early enough for us to open at the advertised time.
Last night was the final straw...
For the 3rd time in the space of a year they have double booked the venue on one of our dates. This weekend they’ve actually triple booked the club which totally beggars belief and has left us in the position of having paid for flyers, posters, bar-b-q accessories, a very sizeable dj bill still to pay and maybe the loss of future bookings with said performer.
Legal proceedings will commence on Monday morning.

Northern Light & Velvet Underground would like to take this oppertunity to respond on the cancellation of the Darkside. The club itself is going through changes with management, most people would agree for the better. Therefore we are becoming far more involved & organised, especially on the promoter front. We have been trying to contact Paul for a number of weeks now, including leaving countless answer phone messages, and through friends of his to no avail.
Obviously lack of promotion (leading to lack of customers) has been a great concern of ours for some time. We speak to all of our other promoters on a regular weekly basis i.e Dnt.Tlk.Net, Dirty Disco, Orange (forthcoming event), Hanky Panky & all other promoters.
As for triple booking, Hanky Panky, which uses the whole venue, has always ran on the second to last saturday of every month.
The sound system in the venue is an Opus Audio rig, as used in many premium venues around the country, inc Gatecrasher one, the new Gatecrasher in leeds and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Darkside had to bring their own rig in to reduce the capacity in the main room as they consistantly had trouble filling it. Anyone present at either Dirty Disco or Warp will agree that our sound system is to a high standard.
Unfortunately we feel we can no longer work with the Darkside, due to lack of communication, extremely poor promotion, promises of djs that regularly do not materialise, and low turnouts for a saturday night in leeds city centre. At the end of the day we are a buisiness not a charity.
Apologies to all Darkside Fans.

For me Darkside would be better off finding a more suitable venue and Northern Light would do better by taking on promoters who they feel will satisfy their need for numbers and who they're fully behind and not just giving them a slot for the sake of filling in a diary (actually given some of the comments it sounds like there's a few diaries[ ]) The comment about always talking to their promoters made me laugh! Dnt.Tlk.Net - 1 event Dirty Disco - 1 event Orange - 0 events
