***Dnt.Tlk.Net - The Final***
Velvet Underground, Underneath Northern Light, Leeds
10 til Late
The Lip Trick(Asylum/2020/Infant)
The Steve Martin Project(Technique/Tribe)
Ryan Hope & Gav Paul
This is it. The final of the Basics/Technique forum DJ Competition.
Had a lot of obstacles in our way this time around, but the show WILL go on, and a tidy little party has been arranged for your pleasure this Friday, August 19th.
First up, Leeds electro night Van Der Graff will be represented by the one and only Mike Page, a.k.a Microfunk. Looking like a cross between John Cleese and Nick Cave, Microfunk’s sound these days encompasses just about everything going, with a main focus on disco and up beat grooves. Whether that’s Marvin Gaye or Daft Punk, doesn’t really matter, because it sounds bloody good and is mixed even better. Accompanying Microfunk will be several Fine Art students from the highly acclaimed Batley Art College, blasting out some pretty wicked visuals.
Then the biggie. Pete1 Vs Chicken George. Those in attendance for both of these guys set will surely agree that this alone is worth coming down to see. Over all the contestants, the standard was very impressive for people who are’nt playing out regularly, as noted by the judges over the course of the evenings in the form of Ryan Shaw, Jay Kilka, McQueen et al. However, these two did stand out as top spinners, and should make for a good battle.
Also making their DTN debut for Asylum will be The Lip Trick. No introduction required for these two really, but for those of you who don’t know, The Lip Trick are Si Baker and Alex Gryzbowski. These two lads have been DJing in and around Leeds for years now, and only recently collaborated in the last few years. Their debut EP received much acclaim, getting aired in DC10 by several top jocks. Anyone who caught them at the Timo Maas Asylum where they really excelled will know exactly what to expect – deep, groovy electronic house music at its very best. Also check out Si bakers new EP on his brand new Infant label – impressive.
Another real treat for you now, in the shape of another collaboration! f**k me its like come dancing here! This time, Dave Martin and Ste Roberts a.k.a. The Steve Martin Project. Yet again, both need little introduction. Dave Martin, Techniques perfectionist and resident comedian, is playing all over the place at the moment, and is getting rave reviews from Newcastle to Birmingham for his floor shaking minimal sets. Ste Roberts is that little genius that you catch running around people’s ankles in Tribe Records, either annoying them or helping them, both in a commited fashion. So, The Steve Martin Project – what the HELL is it all about? Do not let the connotations of that big nosed, silver haired 90’s actor mislead you. The Steve Martin Project has both sets of fingers firmly on the electronic pulse. The only thing you can really expect is the sound to be stripped down to the parts that matter, no bullsh*t. The rest, I’m afraid, is unexpected, as this is the first time these two lads have played together as a duo, so it’s gonna be VERY special to say the least. Some local productions, some hard to find productions, and some ‘f**k me what’s that productions’. We’re excited to be the first night to showcase these lads, and so should you be.
Also playing on the night will be Ryan Hope and Gavin Paul.
So that’s it folks! Thanks to all and sundry who have supported the cause this far, but THIS is the party to be at. It stays open til the last person leaves, so if you want to stay out and play, not a problem, as there will be a host of other Leeds residents playing an afterparty if the crowd wants it.
Good times, Sambuca, Music, People, Friday Night, Courtyard, Party Cigarettes…………
ALL FOR A MERE FOUR POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets have it people, kick off the end of the summer in style…..
See you at the front.
