On 20th of April Re:Publik again bring you one of the brightest DJ's & producers around, Cafe Mambo (Ibiza) & Circus (Liverpool) resident Alex Wolfenden.
2006 saw Alex Wolfenden take up a residency at one of the most famous and influential dj booths in the world, Ibiza's Cafe Mambo. Having the world' most sought after bar residency has projected Alexs' name on global scale making him one of the hottest young producer/dj's that our planet has on offer right now.
Musically versitile at Mambo, Alex blends eveything from classical music to techno as the mood changes from early afternoon to middle of the morning, not forgetting Mambos reputation for being the worlds most famous sunset spot on the planet!
2006 saw another busy summer for Cafe Mambo with Alex supporting the likes of Roger Sanchez, Eric Morillo, Deep dish, Pete Tong, Frankie Knuckles, Satoshie Tomiie, David Morales, Bob Sinclar, Maxi Jazz, Fat Boy Slim, Groove Armada to name a few. Quite simply put, a dj residency does not get any more important than Alex Wolfenden at Cafe Mambo.
The demand for Alex in Ibiza became huge landing him gig offers from all over the island. He played for Jade Jagger at her Jezabel party, Hosted the terrace @ Pacha for MAMBO and played many secret island parties where he again flaunted his musical versitility playing his own style of twisted 80s music, future disco and electronic leftfield madness.
It has been a whirlwind year for the humble Liverpool lad, who has landed what he calls his "dream job". However, the 'dream job' wasn't handed to Alex on a silver platter. It has been earned through years of experience and by building a profile that any 27 year old dj would die for.
Alex started his run of impressive residencies at the legendary Liverpool club Cream. Working for Cream opened new doorways for alex to venture out in the world of djing seeing him move from a national to international dj in a matter of months. In that time he took his sound to from the UK to New York, Los Angeles, Ibiza and Hong Kong.
When the doors to Cream were finally closed it opened another musical pathway. Joining forces with friend and fellow dj Yousef, Alex became the first (and still) resident dj at the award winning Circus at The Masque in Liverpool. This residency has seen Alex support a number of big name acts from Laurent Garnier to Layo & Bushwaka. At the same time as starting at Circus, Alex was managing the ever popular 'Play Music' record shop in Leeds, helping to keep his musical collection at the very top of the game.
So now you have met Alex Wolfenden the dj. Its time to be aquainted with Alex Wolfenden the producer.
Alex has been producing for several years now and has worked with the likes of Nick Fanculli, MYNC, Sarah Main and Yousef. And already remixed International artists such as Fat Boy Slim, Style of Eye and Harry Choo Choo Remero.
Alex (AKA Bagnasty) made his debut EP on Carioca records in Jan 2006, of which one of the tracks featured on Yousefs' Renaissance Frontiers mix compilation.
Alexs' latest release can be heard on www.cariocarecords.com and is already receiving support from Nick fanculli, Paul Woolford, Andy Cato (Groove Armarda), Deep Dish, MYNC plus radio play with great reviews from such as IDJ Magazine.
Its been a great 2006 for Alex Wolfenden, and 2007 is going to be even bigger.
The New E.P
Alex gives some of his own words on his new three track E.P
"Defect is a full vocal that I wrote and sang on with an amazing singer called Miriam Lamen. I love this track as it describes me in the lyrics and musically in the track. It’s real mood injected party music with a twisted epic edge."
"Focus is a straight up dancefloor jam. Inspired by early Cajmere and Green Velvet tracks. Sick bass with weird vocals floating bits in the track. This leaves no prisoners."
"And finally Brownbag. I made this track with Yousef. A tribute to the Theatre at Circus when the club is going mental. This is peak time energy music with an electronic edge, perfect to make any main room erupt."
