House music's vibrant and respected history has allowed many veterans and long-time aficionados an opportunity to evolve, change the game, and develop new undertakings as the music swings further into the 21st century. Doc Link and DJ EMan are such seasoned players, with contributions to many facets of the soulful house scenes in New York and Chicago. Together, in 2006, they combined energies to form Liberate Recordings, an independent music label continuing to make waves in soulful house music circles.
Flipscapes is truly a Deep house track, capital "D" intended. It's a thought-provoking collaboration of Liberate's two label owners: Chicago's Doc Link, known for his collaborations with Roy Davis Jr. and Malik Alston; and New York City's Bang The Party/Deep See resident EMan, responsible for the classic house tracks "It's Yours" and "Musical Prayer." Aiming to set the feet and brain equally into motion the floor-shaking rhythms of this cut are joined by the witty lyricism of Eman. WIth Flipscapes Eman calls out the realness of today’s music industry and heralds the track’s producers’ position on the team that's on the rise. It's soulful house at its finest, tailor made to create major movement on the deepest of late night dancefloors.
Spread into two parts, a heady team of top-notch remixers have come together to caress and transform Flipscapes into a variety of moods and shapes. SOLE Channel Music's Mr. V tears the track apart, creating a most effective nightclub stomper supported heavily by Hector Romero, Miguel Migs, Mousse T., and Fred Everything. There's also a unique, broken-beatish remix from in-demand Belgian producer Boddhi Satva complete with a squelchy bassline and big synth chords. Other remixes come from the Liberate stable, including powerful housey efforts from Romain, DJ Qudus, and Walter Stalllworth. Doc Link himself provides his driving Fully Liberated Mix and a sparser, more cosmic Dubscapes version. There's a mix on here for house DJs everywhere.
