At the last RN2, I was VERY pleasantly suprised with the music. I know nish about dance music and thought it would be faster, more unpleasant & more offensive, but it was driven by some great rolling basslines. Good effort whoever is responsible. I was impressed. HOWEVER, it was funny that the biggest cheer of the night, and the busiest the dance floor got all night, was when 17 year old New Order tune "Blue Monday" was played. I stood back and watched you all go for it!! Lets have a bit more of this chaps. There must be loads of non dance tunes you can tickle a bit to make them suitable. Scott - before you start, i am not complaining!

I've been repremanded a couple of times for a simlar train of thought. At Mint Club once when the dj's had played a reeeeeeeeeeeally monotonous set for 2 hours and then on playing Sweet Dreams by Eurhythmics I watched as the roof blew off & everyone went craaaaazeee....... Why why why I asked - don't they do it all night eh?? I got told it's all about the build up - deprivation v's decent tune That's what it's all about (I'll get shot down for my claim of knowledge though, I usually do)

well the good thing about music is everyone has an opinion
the idea isn't to play fillers and then some "big" track - a "wooo, hey i know this one" type scenario
a good DJ will play good music all the time, building the energy up as and when they feel they need to and then keeping it at a certain level - or chilling it out if they feel the crowd need a break
dropping in retro or famous tracks is good to do to build up the energy sometimes, but it needs to be well-timed and there also is a fine line between dropping a track that tears the roof off and dropping a track that makes people groan - a "oh jeez, everyone is playing this track nowadays" scenario
just trust the DJ
please

You should have been there on Friday mate, T-Boy played a non-dance track as his last tune...what was it James? I was racking my brains (that remained) over the weekend and couldn't name it.

Kravtastic! Just the kind of tune I was on about. Good melody, cool enough but not cheesy and fooking loads of guitar. My Rock n' Roll MOJO will be twitching for something similar at the next rude not 2?!?!?! I find it very difficult to do proper air guitar to dance music

Am not saying I don't agree with T-boy, but upstairs in Rehab was excellent on Saturday. James Holroyd and Ryan Shaw played loads of just good songs (not tunes).. like scissor sisters, some disco, some blues, ending with Strings of life, which was in no way symbolic of the rest of the music. It was completely electic and really refreshing. Likewise when Timmy Reggisford played disco and stevie wonder etc al it was great to hear on a dance floor.. I don't know, maybe its an age thing but isnt it great when you can dance all night because of the quality of hte music, not becuase of the drugs making you think that repeative beat is a good idea? I heard myself saying at DJ Heather "I just don't understand what the kids hear in this" - couldn't get it at all - so maybe it is just am getting old!!

i thought Heather was too hard as well. i'm sure she's an ace DJ but for me it was a bit too full-on/relentless. anyway, i'm sure now i've said that we'll book Heather and i'll look very stoopid

Nothing new there then. Just found a brilliant little picture on my phone of you in the hotel in Sheffield looking a little the worse for wear! Quality.
